There are so many “best of” lists circulating right now! It’s like the world or plastic or laptops or the internet as we know it is coming to an end soon! Everyone one has gotten themselves into such a tizzy scrambling to be noticed for their good taste and why? Why are you are so bleak and building monoliths to your oh so recent and obtuse year when you could be anything?...

An Open Letter to French Bulldog Puppies
Awww. AWWWW. Look at you little guys! YOU ARE SO CUTE! Who’s a cute puppy? WHO’S A CUTE PUPPY? You are. YOU ARE! Oh, yes you are.Yes you are. Look at your little faces! All scrunched up and oh, is that a little snort? Who just snorted a little? You did! I wish I could just scoop you up and take you home with me. But the cat! The cat would not be happy. Oh no she wouldn’t— OH NO SHE WOULDN’T!...

“The coming decades—the 21st-century’s ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s—have the potential to be one long, unbroken, recut spoof in which everything in Avatar farts while Keyboard Cat plays eerily in the background.”

Dear Tumblrrs, I know a lot of you like to write things. I like to draw things. Send me a short story that you’ve written and I will illustrate it and post it here, for fun. My email is at the top of the page. PDFs are preferred.

It’s when you run out of cheese/movie related things to say on Twitter that it’s time to call it a day or at least just shut up and read like, Derrida or something, anything, that will bore you into a submissively inert state of slumber. Or you can watch a movie. Whatever.

I’m pretty sure the reason Lycos isn’t as ubiquitous as Google has something to do with Lycos not making for a very strong verb. “I was Lycosing jackalopes and it would appear that they are rabbits infected with the Shope papilloma virus” just sounds wishy-washy, noncommittal. In some parallel universe, however, this might be the only difference.

A list of fears for 2011 to consider.
Stranger cats. And sometimes familiar cats when they get “that look”* in their eyes. Running out of cigarettes before 2 am. Driving on highways. Waking up to find that I have time travelled into the middle of a Fugazi show circa 1990 somewhere in D.C., needing a cigarette and a drink real bad. Showing up to a pizza party (or a party where pizza is served) only to find that all of...

You know how, like, when you walk past the same building or landmark every day long enough, you just stop seeing it? The same thing happens when I glance at someone’s internet bio with the words “I am a writer.”

Everybody on the internet who is treating this one particular lunar eclipse like it was Black Swan at the Oscars, I get it. The Earth’s shadow is crossing the moon and oh my god. You like astronomy occasionally too. Great. I went outside just now and looked at the moon (and the shadow and hue) and yippie. Can we all stop aping at the moon soon? People used to kill each other over this sort...

tmills reblogged kafkafranz: kafkafranz: I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for? We need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from...

Question for any of you regarding Pro Tools LE:
My dad recently got a copy because he’s trying to start an illustrious, post-retirement career in the world of voice over but he’s having a hard time finding tutorials for Pro Tools that are geared towards people recording for this sort of thing. Most tutorials, it would appear, are more focused on recording music and barely broach the subject of voice over. Some of you on this thing...
