Marginally mediocre.

A sad development.

As a result of my computer being broken and, since I took a nap with Taco earlier today (I hate day-drinking so much Abby you are the worst enabler), I am presently drinking a screwdriver and reading up on aqueduct design for Dwarf Fortress. I’m actually sitting here, on this little back porch thing, fantasizing about all of the ways I could build a better dwarf fortress. And for what? WHYYYYYYY. I’ll only end up, as Emily told her mom today, cursing at the computer “no you stupid dwarves go back inside jesus christ why are you doing that you’re going to get yourselves killed!” I think what it is about dwarf fortress that I like so much is that it’s like a big set of legos made out of ether. Any piece you need that you could possibly conceive of — a pipe, a cabinet, a carved granite block for a wall that will connect to an oak door decorated with yak horn — is all right there. There is all of this order, or at least a looking glass of order, that is punctuated by shattering moments of disarray that can’t be parsed or repaired. There’s an expiration date on the organization but it’s never rote or predictable. One minute, your dwarves are carving toys out of unicorn horns, the next moment a roving cyclops child is clubbing a dwarf who’s gone out to fish or your miners have accidentally dug into the lair of an ancient, disease-ridden monster. Like in life, tomorrow you could wake up and need a root canal or your car could be missing (if you have one of those). Or whatever! Any number of things could go wrong. Anyway, all of this is just to point out that I can’t even believe I am wasting this much time thinking about this and that I hate day-drinking.
