I read this thing on Vice tonight about how girls hate girls even when they’re friends and while all things women are forever hermetically sealed away from me like a lost alchemist’s formula, I will say this: Emily’s best friend just came into town and I think they might be an exception to the rule? They do all things girly like shop and squeal, but they also have engaging conversations with each other because they are people who, I think, genuinely like each other. The article itself is kind of cynical in that tongue-and-cheek Vicey kind of way that masquerades as Real Talk while finishing with a kind of “Nevermind! Just kidding fuck you!” kind of formula that most Vice articles seem to follow when it’s about men/women. The kind of formula that seems to work so much these days which is terribly, awfully sad (but also funny if you can numb yourself to it for a moment).

I don’t think they’re an exception to the rule so much as it’s a bullshit rule. Frenemies and internalized misogyny definitely exist, but those things don’t define female friendship. #obvs
